Day 1 |
The 4th of July was your average cold, gray, rainy, crummy in Denmark (we foreigners grumble a lot.). We left Copenhagen under heavy rain, and it's a good thing we were going south - it could only get better! The ride to the ferry was wet but exhilarating. We were on our way! Fortunately, like all riders in Denmark (and there are a lot of enthusiasts, incidentally), we were both equipped with raingear. So what if mine looked funny - I was, uhhh, visible.
Germany welcomed us with dry roads and we slowly worked our way towards
Frankfurt along the fast but unexciting autobahn, averaging about 140 km/h
at a nice steady pace, usually in the right lane, stopping every hour and a
half or so and taking a good break.
Slowly but surely, the weather improved and by the time we reached our
destination at around 8 pm, it was sunny and warm (22 C).
A good, solid, 850 km day. We stayed with my friend Ute,
whom I had not seen for a couple of years. On the menu was a bottle of
German sekt (sorta like champagne).
