Day 5

Bilbao (July 8th)

We went to a small town near Bilbao to visit a friend of mine, Salomé, and to go to her wedding. It was great: we provided a motorcycle escort to the wedding wearing a suit and tie. Quite a sight for this small village! All I can say is that weddings in Spain involve mucho food and wine... The morning before the wedding, we went to an excellent beach in Zumaia. It was on the way back that the fun started. We decided to skip the highway and take a little winding road along the coast instead, and what a ride!! The road itself was not in great shape, but the curves were fantastic. Most of them were 1st or 2nd gear turns and on the straight stretches it was pushing it to get past 3rd. It took us over two hours to travel 50 km, and after losing track of time we had to race back to make it in time for the wedding (which we did...with 2 minutes to spare...what, me worry?). Motorcycles are good for that.

Roads: The BI638 is the amazing road in question. It winds itself along the coast and goes back through Gernika.
