Day 6 |
Once we left behind the last hills of the Basque country, we reached the fields of Navarra.
It's really great to drive on these small roads through the countryside. When you
stop your motorcycle the only sound is
that of a light breeze. Very peacefull. This was a day
with not so many kilometers to accomplish for a change, so we took it easy and found some pretty small roads
(4-digit roads) that
led us up through the mountains to a point where you had a view of the plain sorrounding
Pamplona before heading down a steep road to the city. We were staying with Javier,
a Spanish friend that I had met in
Copenhagen 2 years before. We were going to Pamplona for this big holliday that lasts a week called
San Fermin - or "let-the-bulls-run-free-in-the-streets-and-may-you-be-sober-to-avoid-them fiesta". The city was
packed with people of all nationalities. Half the city streets were cut off from traffic and it was impossible to
get a straight answer from the locals on where this street we were looking for was. We eventually found Javier's house and
it was nice to cool off the heat (30º+) with a cold beer.

Roads:
Took the N240 to Vitoria and then the A132 to get to the province of Pamplona. The road continues as the C132.
Drove to the small village of Lizarra and then left on the NA120. Some 20 km on this road and then right on a 4-digit
road (a very very small road) that leads to Pamplona.
